3 Tips For Going From ‘Good’ to ‘Great’ As a Fitness Instructor

Being a fitness instructor is an amazing accomplishment no matter what level you're on. People look up to you for guidance and support during their fitness and health journey. You make an influence on people's lives and you help them become the best version of themselves. Despite all of these amazing accomplishments, you may still be left feeling like there is room for self-improvement. This mindset is beneficial because growth is never-ending.

Your potential as a fitness instructor is limitless. There are a few things that you can do today to take your status as an instructor from ‘good’ to ‘great’. You will feel more powerful and influential after each class and your students will see an even bigger impact on their workouts. By putting your best foot forward, you are allowing yourself to open up to the experience of being an instructor and making small adjustments throughout your journey to maximize your success and satisfaction. Let's take a look at some ways that you can go from being a good instructor to a great one!

Pay Close Attention to Your Clients’ Needs

As a fitness instructor, your first priority is to teach your clients the safest and most effective way to complete an exercise. It really doesn't matter what area of Fitness you prefer, all teachers are responsible for the safety and success of their students. As an instructor, you have the power to decide what you expose your clients to.

If you want to go the traditional route and maintain consistency throughout your classes, you will definitely find people who resonate with this style. However, you may find that your clients prefer to switch things up sometimes. Some of your clients may need to see alternate exercises for a lower impact workout. Think about these things as you plan your schedules and create your routines. Accessibility is key when you are trying to reach a large amount of people and increase the success of your client base. You will see the difference when you take the time and energy to pinpoint what your clients desires are.

Offer Freebies

You may just be a traditional fitness instructor who thrives on in person classes or online courses. If you're used to offering class times to your clients, stick with that. However, you can increase the probability of new clients attending these classes by offering freebies. You can promote on your social media that a new client can receive a free class if they attend a class in person or online. You can also offer a free guide that gives a glimpse into what you provide as a fitness instructor. Either way, the client gets a taste of what you do and what they will get out of being your student, and then are urged to take the next step. They will invest in your classes from this point on once you get them hooked with a free offer. Doing this takes little effort or money on your end and can increase your profits greatly.

Focus On Your “Why”

What was the reason that you became a fitness instructor in the first place? Were you trying to prove to yourself that you can help others the way that you helped yourself? Were you influenced by somebody else to become an instructor? Did you flip your life around and now you can't wait to share your secrets with people just like you? There are so many reasons people become fitness instructors, but your “why” is unique. If you are able to focus on the reason that you started this career, you will be able to step up your game through passion.

The most important thing to remember is where you started. You had a fire within you, a passion and a drive for success. You still do, that won’t ever go away! You just have to harness it and use that to your advantage throughout your journey as a fitness instructor. As you instruct, hone in on that feeling of why you’re there in the first place. Focus on your love for fitness and moving your body. Your clients will see you radiate that energy and it will have the biggest impact of anything you do for them.

Stepping up your game as a fitness instructor doesn’t have to be formal and complicated. You don’t have to train harder or learn more. You can take some simple steps right now to improve and enhance your influence on the people you coach to go from a ‘good’ fitness instructor to a ‘great’ one!
