There are so many reasons for wanting to stay fit. Boosting one's health, social causes, mental health, and even certain life events are factors that can motivate anyone to stay healthy. So, well done! You've found the reason to take that first step and commit to getting fit! Now, all you need to do is work out how to do it.
Starting a fitness program is one of the best things that you can do to start your journey. Even little steps can make a big difference. So, to help you get started, here are a few ways to boost your new fitness adventure.
Fitness level assessment
You presumably have an idea about how healthy you are. So going for an assessment and knowing your fitness goals will give you a better idea about measuring your progress. When doing assessments, your fitness coach will assess your fitness goals.
Mayo Clinic says that experts will also have to measure your pulse rate before and after walking. They can also record how long it takes for you to walk one mile and how many pushups you can do at a particular time. They might measure your waist circumference and your body mass index. Assessing your fitness level can help you figure out the best fitness program for you.
Perform daily exercises
Once you've figured out the right fitness program for you, you need to ensure that you do daily exercises consistently – and this can look different for everyone. Now, you don't need to push yourself too hard to get fit. Remember to do it moderately and based on the assessment that you got from the expert. For instance, instead of running, you can go out on a walk at a brisk pace to get your body moving. You can also consider jogging and set particular intervals to sprint within your exercise period.
Eat the right foods in the correct portions
No matter how intense your cravings can be for sweets, try your best to stick to healthy foods as often as possible. Excessive sugar intake won't do you any good. Instead of eating unhealthy sugar-loaded snacks, consider eating fruits, vegetables, and nuts as a healthy option. For instance, aside from containing high levels of nutrients, apples can also be an excellent way to satiate your hunger for up to four hours, and they are a good source of fiber. Meanwhile, green vegetables contain high amounts of fiber which is perfect for your digestive system.
It's also ideal to consume lean meats like chicken and turkey instead of red meat like pork and beef. You can also include your favorite seafood but baked or grilled instead of fried. It's also best to plan your meals six times a day and set them up in smaller portions. Smaller portions and frequent small meals throughout the day will also help you kickstart your metabolism, and stave off that hunger that might have you reaching for those sugar-loaded snacks!
Meal planning
Another way to help you stay on track with your new fitness journey is to plan out your meals. Your meal plan can be done days in advance or even weeks. It’s up to you, and you can choose your favorite healthy option snacks in advance, so you have them on hand. as this will help you stay on track easier.
Choose the workout that you really enjoy
Some really good advice also is to choose an exercise program that you genuinely like. It can be anything that you can think of, from walking outdoors, going to the gym, or working out to SOULFUSION right in your living room with me!
But one thing that you need to remember is not to overdo it. You must build up your fitness levels one step at a time. It's best to listen to your body and not overdo it. Overloading your muscles can cause injuries and fatigue, which can become an issue in the long run.
Stay motivated
Lastly, the key to getting in shape is ensuring that you keep a positive mindset throughout your fitness journey. Setting up fitness goals while maintaining a positive outlook will help you achieve the body (and fitness level) that you've always wanted.
If you ever lose your motivation, consider setting new goals or even try out a new activity. You can also consider doing a few exercise routines with your friends or enroll in a fitness class, or join a Beachbody Challenge group.
No matter how tiny your steps can be, choosing to start your fitness journey is a crucial decision that'll change your life for the better.
