When I first started my business I had no idea what I was doing. Like most new entrepreneurs, I had a dream to help people around the world with my positivity and fitness expertise. I thought that would be enough to make my business succeed, but boy was I wrong. Now, after years in this business, I have learned a thing or two about what it takes to thrive as an entrepreneur.
If you are dreaming of becoming a successful lady boss then this article is for you. Keep reading for my all-time top 10 things women need to rock their business.
1. A Positive Mindset
The biggest obstacle to overcome on your way to becoming a successful entrepreneur is your mindset. You can only go as far as your mind will take you. Learning to keep a positive mindset in the midst of the craziness that is running your own business will take you farther than any skills you have. If you want to succeed, you have to believe that you can.
In the famous words of Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t…you’re right.”
2. A Set Goal
What do you want for your business? If you can’t answer this question, you need to go take a step back and evaluate your goals. The first step in rocking your business is knowing what you want and having a set goal.
Write your goals down and post them where you will see them often. Seeing your goal in black and white will keep you motivated when things get hard.
3. Persistence
If there is one thing I can promise you about running your own business, it’s that you will feel like throwing in the towel more than once. Things will get tough and there will be days where you question what you are doing. Don’t give up on your dreams! You started your business for a reason. Keep pushing through the hard days and before you know it, you will be rocking your business.
4. Willingness To Take Action
Nothing is going to happen for you in your business by luck. You have to have that fire in you to take action! This is especially true when running your own business. Nobody is going to do it for you. If you want to rock your business you will have to be willing to take action.
5. A Planner
How many times have you bought a planner with good intentions and found it a year later in a drawer with nothing in it? Not gonna lie- I have been guilty of this more than once in my life. Once I learned and committed to using a planner for my business, I was able to skyrocket my business to a new level.
There is so much that goes into running a business that it’s easy to lose track. Instead of using post-its everywhere or trying to rely on your memory, commit to using a planner consistently. Find a cute one and take it with you everywhere you go. If it’s always with you, you are more likely to use it. Writing your goals down in your planner is also a great visual reminder and motivator.
6. An Alarm Clock
One overwhelmingly common characteristic of successful CEOs is that they wake up early and get to work. By getting up at an average time of 5 am, these CEOs can get half a day’s work in by the time some people are just getting out of bed.
Studies show that your brain works best first thing in the morning. If you want to be productive and make fewer mistakes, you need to get to work earlier in the day. A bonus of getting up earlier is that you can have more free time later in the day when obstacles tend to derail productivity.
7. A Desire To Learn
Whatever niche you are in, I guarantee you it will not stay the same for very long. The world of business is constantly changing and evolving. If you want to rock your business, you have to be willing to learn.
Staying on top of trends, innovations, and marketing strategies is just the beginning of learning your business. Find a course to teach you what you don’t know- I promise there is a course out there for anything you need. Never stop educating yourself!
8. A Distraction-Free Work Space
Building your empire from the comfort of your home sounds like a dream come true, but it doesn't always make for the most productive workspace. It’s hard to focus on that blog post when you have a sink of dirty dishes staring at you. You might think you can plan a month’s worth of social media posts while watching tv or talking on the phone, but I promise you, you can’t.
If you want to truly be productive, you have to have a dedicated workspace free of distractions. Everything should be turned off or out of sight- phone, tv, radio- anything that takes your focus away from the task at hand. You will complete your work faster and it will be of higher quality than if you were distracted.
9. Down Time
Working hard and hustling is important, but if you really want to rock your business you have to learn to relax and recharge. If all you do is hustle 24/7 you will be burnt out before you achieve any kind of success. You need time with family and friends, and even time to be alone.
There is a reason companies give their employees vacation days and why every top CEO takes regular vacations. They know the value of letting your mind and body escape from the troubles of business.
10. A Good Support System
Building a business from scratch is exhausting and will push you past your limits. It can be lonely and there will be plenty of times that you fail. The difference between those entrepreneurs who succeed and those who don’t often come down to having a good support system.
A reliable support system will back you and be there when you need help- and trust me, you will need help! Lean on your support system and do it often. Reach out for help and don’t be too proud. Your real friends will have your back and cheer you on towards your goals. If you haven’t found your tribe yet, reach out to some fellow entrepreneurs in your niche.
Being an entrepreneur is a risk. Trying to break through as a woman boss takes guts and courage. Don’t give up on your dream! Women are becoming more powerful in the world of business and there is nothing we can’t do if we band together.
