Building a Fitness Brand From the Ground Up

You’re a fitness entrepreneur–fitness is your absolute passion and you want to share that passion with others. You want to build your own fitness brand from the ground up.

You’re pondering the question, “How do I build a fitness brand of my own?” and with that question alone, you’re one step ahead of the game.

A lot of people who want to build a brand, but have no idea where to start, don’t usually begin knowing that a brand is essential to starting any business endeavor. With a fitness brand, you will show the world your fitness mission, market, niche, purpose, and style.

But, where do you begin? How do you build a fitness brand from the ground up effectively and successfully? Let’s start by outlining what a fitness brand is.

What Is A Fitness Brand?

Before you begin your entrepreneurial journey, first let’s answer the question: what is a fitness brand?

The word “brand” may be daunting, but in reality, your fitness brand is the way the world views you. By having a brand and executing it successfully, you are sending the world a message about how you’d like your brand to be perceived.

Your brand is what you stand for, what you strive for, and why you do what you do. It shows society a clear message of your brand’s purpose and what to expect when working with you or engaging with your business.

Your brand is important. It’s the lifeline behind your entire entrepreneurial journey. So, let’s dive into how to build a fitness brand and what’s important to include.

How To Create Your Fitness Brand

To create a fitness brand, you will need a fitness brand strategy to do so.

But, what’s a strategy, you may be asking?

A brand strategy is a guideline for your entire brand. It’s the “why” you do it, what you do it for, and how you do it. It helps you plan for right now and for the future. Your strategy helps you figure out ways to execute the vision you are manifesting in your brain and make it a reality.

Outline Your Goals

When beginning the journey of developing a fitness brand, it’s important to outline your goals. What do you want to see within this brand? What do you want others to see? How do you want people to feel when they come into your gym (if that’s what you’re choosing to do with your brand)? Or how do you want people to feel when they visit your social media pages?

Outline your personal and entrepreneurial goals to start. This will give you a base-level outline of where to start, and you can then continue planning your brand from there.

A few examples of questions to ask yourself when outlining your goals for your brand strategy:

  • What is my goal for this brand?
  • How do I want people to feel when they think of/view my brand?
  • Who’s my ideal customer?
  • Am I a fitness business or a fitness influencer on social media?
  • What is my fitness niche? What am I an expert in?
  • How do I want this brand to look in five, ten, fifteen years?

Select A Niche

It’s important to select a niche that means something to you when starting your fitness brand strategy journey. Selecting a niche that you feel as though you’re an expert in and could see your brand’s future growth within will help you outline your goals clearly and effectively. Your niche may be HIIT workouts, motivational content, or a yoga studio. Whatever it may be, knowing your niche and selecting it is the first ultimate step in creating your fitness brand.

Who’s Your Target Market?

This is an important step in the process. Knowing your ideal customer, follower, and/or employee, will help you create clear goals in your brand vision. This means maybe you want your studio to gear more towards the younger demographic—then that’s a start.

Or, maybe you want your brand to aim toward moms looking for fitness inspiration and motivation. Or individuals under or over 50. Whomever it may be, highlighting who your target audience is will be essential to your brand marketing and strategy.

This will take some time, so make sure you set aside time to envision your target market and what that may look like for you and your brand.

Your Brand’s Style

Equally as important is your brand’s style. Your style consists of your logo, colors, the name of your business, and the aesthetic. You need all of these aspects in line before launching your business. Your name and logo are what will stand out first to people potential clients.

Choose a name that reflects what your brand stands for. Use colors that inspire motivation, if that’s what you so wish. Create an aesthetic that directly aligns with your vision, target market, and your niche.

Once you have your style, your brand will begin to develop right in front of your eyes (literally)!

The “Why”

The next important factor in creating your brand is outlining the “why.” Why did you start this venture? What is the purpose? Is it to motivate or inspire? Is it to create a studio where people feel a sense of support and community? Is it a place that focuses only on weight loss?

It’s important for you to always remember the “why” of it all. Why you’re doing this, who you’re doing it for, and what results you’d like to see.

Call it your mission statement. Write it down and use it to refer back to when things get tough or when you feel unmotivated. This will help you remember the why of it all and help get you back on track to your entrepreneurial dream.

It may seem like a daunting task, but taking advice from these tips and using them to create your brand will be motivating. You will start to see your vision manifesting right before your eyes. You will create something, from start to finish, that you are proud of.

You just gotta get started!
