A long time ago, I had a friend ask me to come along to a spin class. Being a fitness junkie, I welcomed the idea with open arms. Oh what fun!
Boy did I get my booty kicked.
I’m almost positive that my heart nearly burst out of my chest that day. This was the hardest class I had taken in a long time.
The thing is, I still remember that class. I would go back any time because the reward of a good workout is always worth it. And my friend and I had the biggest sweaty smiles on our faces when we were done.
Friendship
Life is much more fun when you can share it with your friends. Speaking on female to female friendships in particular — there’s nothing quite like it.
Forbes.com even talks about how — hanging with our girlfriends is important to reduce stress, to promote positivity and mental health. It supports our physical health and longevity.
This makes sense. Talking to a friend and having their support can be a stress-reliever, which in turn boosts your dopamine and serotonin levels. Being with your friends quite literally makes you a happier person.
Effort
Life can get hectic.
Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like it’s an endless cycle of dishes, errands, and just sooo much laundry? Did you want to scream, or cry, or just curl in a ball and watch some trashy reality show under a pile of blankets?
Yeah — I’ve been there too. This is why, in all the craziness in life, blocking out a chunk of time for your friends on a regular basis will be beneficial to your health and mind.
Take the time for one another! You won’t regret it.
Genuine Connection
The best kind of friendship is so much deeper than surface level.
✓ A true friend has seen you cry over the most ridiculous things
✓ A true friend has lent you clothes because “you hate everything in your closet”
✓ A true friend held your wedding dress over your head so you could go to the bathroom
✓ A true friend brought extra snacks because she knows you get hangry
And so much more. You know that someone who you could lean on in times of need, laugh with in times of happiness, and cry with in days of sadness.
Stay true to that person. You need a friend outside of your home that you can be 100% yourself with.
Fitness Buddy
Now where does fitness come in with all of this talk about friendship?
Let me ask you this…
Would you ever want to let your friend down?
Nope.
And THAT is what makes them the best fitness pal a gal could ask for! Routines are so much easier to maintain if you have someone to hold you accountable. You know your friend will kick you in the behind if you slack on your shared goals.
Plus — you would feel mighty guilty if you stayed home to snack while they went for a run by themselves.
Working out with a friend will provide…
- Motivation
- Dedication
- Encouragement
- Accountability
- Safety
- Friendly Competition
- Enjoyment
